Abstract

The progress of every society should be geared towards a nationalistic ethics which will ensure the need and import of all members of that society. The call for a national ethics is a call for united nation, a happy nation and a progressive nation. The nationalistic ethics addresses and assessed the arguments for institutional recognition which suggests the appropriate limit of national accommodation. They are two major tasks of national ethics, which are the projects of nation building and liberal democracy. The articles discuss and focuses on what could be the limit of nationalism and how the nationalists should be treated for a prosperous nation building. The authors adopted historical and analytical methods to handle the contemporary and controversial policies of states towards nation building, the kind of treatments given to minority groups and multi-cultural groups in Nigeria. However, they then suggest that there is need to have an ethics that is called national ethics. This national ethics will serve as focus points of national conduct for easy, transparent and successful national building. The authors conclude that ethical nationalism or nationalistic ethics is call for community effort towards nation building which will aid progress in the country, unity and love towards one another. Ethical nationalism abhors tribal differences or secessionist agitation; rather it fosters unity of purpose among one another in the society.
