MILITARY GOVERNMENTS AND ASSAULTS ON NIGERIA’S SECULARITY
Résumé
Secularity is important for the smooth legislation of a nation especially in a nation such as Nigeria that is clearly multi-Religious. This notion of secularity is important because it will enable the government enforce national laws on religious freedom freely, firmly, and fairly, ensure that public policies, programmes, and actions of government are not dictated by any particular religion’s regulations or doctrine. But again, secularity does not in any way suggest that people should not practice any religion nor uphold morality and this understanding is vital to the Nigerian context as Nigeria is a nation with multiple religious affiliations which are not meant to be imposed on the citizens, rather governments are expected not only to protect constitutional provisions but to promote them and the spirit behind the provision.
