Abstract

The supposed role of the United Nations (UN) in containing the application of robot soldiers in warfare is a neglected theme in studies on military science and technology. All the previous attempts made at documenting issues relating to robot soldiers are done in isolation to the responsibility of the UN in mitigating the use of such dangerous weapons. This paper, therefore, examines the supposed roles of the UN in the stoppage of robot soldiers in war situations, since their effects are more destructive than other weapons. It is an attempt to bridge the gap on the subject matter. The paper discusses the kinds and nature, and the implications of robot soldiers on global security. With the use of secondary sources (extant literature) including photographic evidence (pictorial analyses); the paper assesses the role of the UN in the mitigation of the menace under consideration. In doing this, the official responses of the UN have been espoused. The study concludes that the UN has performed marginally in stopping the application of robots to human warfare.
