CHRISTIAN RELIGION IN THE FACE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE: CHALLENGES AND PROSPECTS FROM THE BACKDROP OF 1COR 1:21-25
Abstract
With the speedy technological advancement in different parts of the world, one can say that we are probably in the age of Dan 12:4. Prior to this time, human being has remained the master of creation. Recently, it is as if the reverse has become the case. Human being has produced robots and other technologies that seem much more effective and efficient than human beings and even at an unprecedented acceleration. Over and above social network is the most recent, namely, artificial intelligence. This development has posed challenges to every aspect of human life. Its confrontation with theology especially, the Christian makes it even more worrisome. This paper adopts the critical lens of exegesis to interpret 1Cor 1:12-25 to demonstrate that even in the face of the surprises of artificial intelligence, a product of human wisdom, it can never supersede the wisdom of God, the ultimate source of all. Attempt is made to examine the meaning and limitations of artificial intelligence and the foreseen dangers it poses to Christian religion. The researcher believes that the results of the findings of this research will aid believers, leaders of Christian religion to remain firm with less anxiety knowing that a part can never be greater than the whole. It will also serve as a reference point to adherents of other religious tenets in improving their teachings to face the challenges of the age.
