Abstract

This paper examines the relationship between youth restiveness and politics in Nigeria, focusing on Ahmed Yerima's Hardground. The play offers a compelling narrative that sheds light on the struggles, frustrations, and aspirations of Nigerian youths within the political landscape. Drawing on the themes of political exclusion, corruption, economic hardships, and identity tensions, the paper provides a nuanced exploration of the factors contributing to youth restiveness. Stouffer's Relative Deprivation Theory edges this study theoretically. In the course of analyzing Hardground within the context of youth restiveness and politics, the paper underscores the significance of inclusive governance, economic reforms, and social cohesion in addressing the underlying issues and creating a more equitable and prosperous future for Nigerian youths. The paper therefore recommends that by taking a multi-dimensional and proactive approach, Nigeria can address youth restiveness, fostering an environment that empowers its youth population and contributes to the country's overall development and stability.
