Abstract

Education from the etymological root educere means to lead out, probably out of ignorance and educare meaning to lead perhaps into knowledge, is for proper integral formation of the human person. The end product of education, id est teaching and learning, is seen concretely on the academic brilliance and scholarly performance of our students, finding them worthy in discipline and character. Academic institutions, precisely our primary and secondary schools, remain the citadel of this change in attitude and general learning for the expected academic superiority. Using the method of critical analysis, the researcher finds out that many of our secondary schools are not much involved in proper curricular activities that will guarantee and generate academic fineness. Instead, they are champions in extracurricular activities that often ridicule academic excellence. Nevertheless, the researcher opts primarily for a return to effective curricular activities and then complements them with extracurricular activities.
