ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) AND AFRICAN PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION: RETHINKING TEACHING-LEARNING AND INNOVATION FOR THE FUTURE
Abstract
This paper explores how AI may both complement and challenge traditional African educational thought, enabling inclusive, adaptive and culturally grounded yet globally conscious teaching-learning experiences. AI is transforming pedagogy across continents and its integration with core African philosophical principles offers promising opportunities for pioneering innovative instruction and empowering self-guided exploration of knowledge. Deeply rooted in holistic development which interconnects all people and honors ancestral traditions, African education emphasizes ethical community, cultural heritage preservation and the collective sharing of hard-won wisdom. AI driven tools show potential to augment these ideals through individualized curriculum, protection of indigenous perspectives and expanded access to formal and informal instruction. However, responsible development and application remain essential to ensure technology elevates rather than replaces critical thinking, problem-solving and human connection. Using the method of rigorous analysis and comparison, the author finds out that by judiciously leveraging AI, Africa may foster an adaptive educational system that skillfully blends scientific and technological progress with established philosophical foundations and priorities, for the benefit of all learners.
