BOOK REVIEW - BIBLE AND POLITICS: CAN NIGERTAM CATHOLICS BAPTIZE THE DIRTY GAME OF POLITICS
Résumé
Popular parlance, especially in Nigeria , depicts the Bible politics as a set of contraries. This assertion is given credence to by the common and popular adage, which has roots from the bible, “give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God.” Within the confines of the Catholic Church this is further deepened by the pronouncements of canons 285-3, 287-2 and other related canons, which seem to indicate that politics must be corrupt. This leaves many Christians without any opportunity to see within the bible a chance for active pfll’litipdli{)n in politics, in order to secure better living conditions in the here and now. But Ezeogu,a professor of Scripture thinks differently. The notion of politics as the domain of non- Christian involvement is unchristian. It needs to be completely abandoned and a new course taken.
