THE PSYCHOLOGICAL EFFECTS OF TERRORISWM AND RELIGIOUS VIOLENCE ON THE NIGERIAN YOUTH AND SOME COPING STRATEGIES

  • Maureen Akabuogu, IHM

Abstract

The fact that Nigeria is multi-religious in dynamism is a source of grace. It should not breed division but rather a kind of unity in diversity. Religions are different ways through which creatures search for God who is the Creator and final cause. Unfortunately, the different approaches in seeking God have metamorphosized into different forms of violence. The most disturbing are the countless Boko haram and killer herdsmen attacks in which hundreds of people are often killed. The survivors of these attacks live to suffer the traumatic effects of the harms incurred. This violence which ranges from physical, spiritual, emotional and psychological has significant influence on the brains of the youth of the country.
