Resumen

The Church co-exists with a society confronted with problems of sickness, suffering and misfortunes of various kinds. She shares in the joys, sorrows, hopes and anxieties of the society to which its mission is directed. People look to religion for answers to problems of suffering and sickness. From ancient times, the Church has always responded to the yearnings and cries of the people by word and action. The healing ministry is one of those ways by which the Church responds to the cry of the sick and the afflicted for liberation. Today a number of new generation ministries are making waves in the Church, each offering explanations and solutions to the problem of sickness and suffering. Today there is growing assumption that the sins committed by one's ancestors could set in motion a chain of sicknesses and misfortunes in the family which could, if not remedied, be transmitted to subsequent generations. This article is an attempt to discuss these issues. Certain questions guide this discussion, for instance, are there things like generational curses? Can such curses, if any, be remedied? Are all sicknesses a consequence of sin?
