Resumen

Corruption is a cankerworm that has eaten deep into the fabric of contemporary African societies. Like a cancer, its growth has been quite exponential and seemingly unstoppable. This has greatly stunted the socio-economic growth of African fations. To experience the reality of corruption in all its shades and nuances, one has only to come and live in the African society for a few days. In Nigeria, for example, merely driving through the streets of the country brings one face to face with the manifest corruption unashamedly practiced and enjoyed by the citizens and officers of law alike - police taking bribes on the road and even giving 'change' to commercial drivers who pay the illicit collection, civil servants requesting for incentives before they can do the jobs they are paid to do, procedures manipuhted to gain undue advantage, less qualified personnel hired over better skilled and qualified persons etc. The list is endless.
