HUMAN DIGNITY: A PARADIGM FOR PEACE AND INTERRELIGIOUS DIALOGUE

  • Patricia Idoko, PhD

Resumen

Christianity and Islam have a long history of incessant tensions and inter- religious conflicts. The hostile relationship between these two major world religions often erupts in bloody unrests and disrupt peaceful coexistence and human flourishing. Though there have been attempts to attenuate the bitter relationship between Christianity and Islam through dialogue, the culture of violence and suspicions has not abated. Consequently, the task of putting an end to religious violence remains a challenge for the two major religions, This paper argues that the concept of human dignity, which is a core teaching in Christianity and Islam, has the potential to offer a valuable contribution to the pursuance of peace and the discourse on interreligious dialogue.
