Resumen

This article aims to demonstrate that, in a country like Nigeria, the first step toward growth is the total development of the citizen, who is intended to act as a catalyst for change and transformation; the moral development of the citizen serves as the entryway to the advancement of the country. The study employs the critical analysis method to achieve its objectives. The deterioration of moral standards may be the reason behind the rising rate of social vice in Nigeria. Nigeria's progress as a country is hampered by the current environment, where crime and corruption are pervasive in most people's everyday lives. The results show that democracy fosters development and that moral development requires democratic institutions. This study contends that long-lasting societal vices would remain uncontrolled if people's ethical growth were not given enough attention.
