PHILOSOPHY OF THE BLACK WOMAN’S EXPERIENCE: THE DIGINITY OF THE IGBO WOMAN

  • PhilipMary Emenike Ayika

Abstract

traditional women, one could see that they lived under great cultural overarching principles. The discipline of silence, disciplina arcani and humility in women reveal their original colours of meaning in the understanding of our traditional women before recent world civilizations dye them by dipping them in the hue of patriarchal structures. A reflection on Aba Women’s riot of 1929 provides a historical window for a critical investigation into the metaphysical being of women in our traditional epoch. They were not push-overs nor appendages of men but ones who consciously moved towards a cultural goal, the preservation of life and social ethos writ large in the traditional milieu. This backdrop exposes the system rape of colonialism.
