NOLLYWOOD FILMS AND IDENTITY LANGUAGE RECONSTRUCTION OF NDIGBO IN ACHALUGO THE PRETTY ONE AND CHOSEN BY THE GODS.

Some Nollywood films have explored the concept of Igbo cultural reconstruction. The filmmakers use the medium of film to depict and challenge aspects of Igbo culture. Thus, the relevance of this research which examines the use of diction in Igbo cultural representation which also goes further to show how the Igbo culture have been misrepresented through the wrong use of language. The research aims at sensitizing filmmakers in Nigeria on the important of making adequate research as it concerns the Igbo culture before embarking on the journey of film production. The study makes use of Sapir-Whorf Hypothesis Theory of Diction as its theoretical construct. Two Nollywood films were analyzed; Achalugo the Pretty One and Chosen by the Gods. The research also makes use of the qualitative and content analysis which emphasizes on the holistic and in-depth examination of the context. The research concludes that inability to carry out credible research, making the financial gains a primary interest, and lack of professionalism associated to filmmaking are the main factors for the misrepresentation of the Igbo culture.
